Second Example of Healthy Lifestyle

This picture shows the double gated entrance to the horse area. In the foreground on the right is the wash area. In the background one can see a hay feeding station.

This is the smaller covered loafing area with 3 large and airy box stalls ( 2 have a small paddock) for sick horses or other occasions.

This is the large covered loafing area with 3 space dividers. Lots of rubber mats and straw bedding invite resting. In one spot there is a deep pile of straw that the horses use as toilet.

This is the open sand area with 2 water stations south of the large covered loafing area for good rolling fun and sunning.

Another view of the sand area.

This photo shows an area left of the water stations. To the left it goes past the small covered loafing area to the exit, to the right it goes to the grain feeding station and to the grassy field, and straight ahead one can see one of the 2 automatic hay and haylage feeders. Lower ranked horses can come here to eat their hay in peace, divided in several rations per day. The horses are allowed to eat 15 to 30 minutes without interruption and then have free access to straw and also hay.

This is the view to the right with the graining station, which at the same time regulates access to the hay area. Horses can be fed up to 24 grain rations per day in portions of 1 to 2 oz. The exit has a swing door which sorts each horse individually to the hay area or not, as required. For the last 2 years, there has been no colic on the premises, the horses are all very calm, they have no food envy and in the grooming area, 2 or 3 put their noses chummily into one feed bowl without evil looks. So nice to see.

This is a closeup of the grain feeding station. One can easily see the the grill doors on the right and left and how they swing to either allow the horses to the hay area or back to the loafing area. Behind the building is a small meadow which is open year round, but right now is a mucky moon landscape. Behind this meadow one can see the large grazing fields, open all summer.

Looking to the west, one can see the barn building. The part that is all clad in wood is the small covered run-in area with the box stalls. Behind the white wall is the large covered loafing area and to the left the sandy area with the water stations. To the right is the double gated entrance area. The halters hang between the gates under roof and the doors close automatically. The darker building way to the right is the covered grooming area with lockers.
